The national auction will be Saturday, June 12, at 10 am and a preview of the collection Friday, June 11 from 10 am-6 pm. The collection has 20 Pontiac Trans Am and Firebird models from 1971 to 1981 including a popular white 1974 Pontiac Super Duty Trans Am.

In 1977, Burt Reynolds starred in Smokey and the Bandit, a movie about a pair of guys smuggling beer - and a bride, across the states in a tractor trailer truck and a ‘77 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. spent years collecting and finding Pontiacs and car parts after his first drive in a Pontiac Judge. Burt Reynolds' only 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in January for almost 500,000. The auction is known as The Kansas Collection. After his passing, Larson’s family contacted VanDerBrink Auction about the stash of Trans Ams, Firebirds and other Pontiacs, which will be sold this Friday and Saturday. The late Bernard Larson was a letter carrier who collected the cars-starting even before the Bandit made them famous. A small collection of cars owned or driven by the late movie star Burt Reynolds was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas last week, Motor Authority reports.
This Saturday the cars will be auctioned in Tonganoxie, west of KC, along with some parts. That era of Trans Am is, of course, one of the most famous movie cars of all time-it’s what Burt Reynolds drove in his Smokey and the Bandit movies-and it’s rare to find a large collection of them. A local man’s passion for Pontiacs has grabbed national attention during the buildup to an impressive auction featuring his collection of seventies Trans-Ams.
